Game Changers: Assessment Hacks You Can’t Live Without

What do Darth Vader and kitchen sinks have to do with assessment? You’ll soon find out! No gimmicks. No unrealistic theory. Just helpful advice from an experienced elementary teacher. Partner Diagnostics. Feedback Loops. Single Point Rubrics. These are game changers you won’t want to miss.

This workshop will focus on the three main types of assessment used in a classroom setting as defined by Growing Success (2010) – Assessment FOR and AS, and OF learning. We will examine the possibilities and purposes of these assessment techniques, while also acknowledging the challenges we may face as educators when trying to implement them. Using a variety of practical classroom examples, we will explore possible “hacks” for some of the more common difficulties we experience to improve student engagement and teacher manageability. The workshop will focus specifically on how to maximize your use of diagnostics, feedback, and rubrics, as well as offer some guiding tips for the reporting and evaluation stages of the assessment cycle. Whether you are a new teacher or a seasoned veteran, there will be something here for you to add to your assessment bag of tricks!
